On June 23, 2026, CISA added three UniFi OS vulnerabilities to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog — all on the same day, with a three-day remediation deadline. UniFi OS is the operating system behind Ubiquiti's Dream Machine, Cloud Key, UNVR and Dream Router devices — the platform hosting both the network controller and, on many installations, UniFi Protect and its video surveillance.
Taken separately, these three CVEs look like medium-severity flaws. Read together, they describe a complete exploitation chain: read credentials off the filesystem, alter the configuration, then execute commands.
One limitation to flag up front: NVD has published no CVSS score, no vector, and no version list for these three CVEs at the time of writing. I'm therefore relying solely on the CISA descriptions, and I won't invent version numbers. To identify the fixed release for your hardware, you need the Ubiquiti advisory.
The Three CVEs

All three descriptions share the same phrasing on the prerequisite: "a malicious actor with access to the network". Exploitation therefore doesn't necessarily assume internet exposure — an attacker on the local network, or on the guest Wi-Fi depending on your segmentation, is enough.
The Exploitation Chain
What makes these three CVEs interesting isn't their individual severity but their complementarity. They cover exactly the three steps an attacker needs:
1. Obtain credentials — CVE-2026-34909
The path traversal allows reading arbitrary files on the underlying system. The CISA description is explicit about the purpose: those files "could be manipulated to access an underlying account." In other words, the read leads to recovering authentication material.
2. Alter the configuration — CVE-2026-34908
The access control failure allows unauthorized changes to the system. On a UniFi controller, that covers network configuration: VLANs, firewall rules, SSIDs, segmentation policies.
3. Execute code — CVE-2026-34910
Command injection closes the chain, turning access into execution on the device's OS.
The fact that all three were KEV-listed on the same day suggests they were observed exploited together, or reported by the same source following a campaign.
Why UniFi OS Is a High-Yield Target
What a UniFi OS device actually covers
A Dream Machine or Cloud Key isn't "a router." On most installations, it's the entire network infrastructure condensed into one box:
- Gateway and firewall: all site internet traffic passes through it
- UniFi Network controller: administers every access point, switch and gateway on site
- UniFi Protect (where licensed): manages cameras, their streams and recordings
- UniFi Access / Talk in some deployments: physical access control and telephony
A takeover therefore delivers, in one shot: visibility into and manipulation of network traffic, reconfiguration of segmentation, and access to video surveillance — live streams as well as archives.
That last point deserves emphasis because risk analyses rarely anticipate it: a network CVE becomes a direct privacy breach for the people on camera, with the corresponding GDPR obligations in the event of a breach.
The affected audience
UniFi occupies a distinctive market position: professional quality at accessible pricing, which places it heavily in SMBs, retail, professional practices, hospitality, non-profits — and with demanding home users.
Those are precisely the environments with no dedicated security team, where the device is installed by an integrator then forgotten, and where "which firmware version is on the Dream Machine?" has no immediate answer.
Detection and IOCs
Check your version — first step

Compare against the fixed version in the Ubiquiti advisory for your model. Auto-updates are enabled by default on UniFi OS but fail silently in several situations: insufficient disk space, controller mid-migration, or an update window never reached because the device is powered off overnight.
Accounts and access
- Unknown local accounts:
Settings → Admins & Users - Ubiquiti SSO accounts linked to the console that don't match your team
- Remote sessions in the history:
Settings → System → Remote Access
Any administrator session from an unexpected IP or geolocation warrants investigation.
Network configuration
This is the most reliable signal, because altering configuration is the attacker's objective:
- Added firewall rules, particularly broad outbound allows
- Undocumented port forwards
- New SSIDs, or changes to guest network isolation
- VLAN changes that weaken segmentation
- Modified DNS servers — a classic for intercepting traffic
UniFi Protect
If you run video surveillance:
- Stream views or recording downloads not tied to a legitimate request
- Cameras disabled or repointed
- Retention period changes
Outbound traffic
The device should talk to Ubiquiti services and your DNS. Any outbound connection initiated by the console itself to another destination warrants investigation.
Mitigation
1. Update — and verify it happened
That's the only fix. Check the Ubiquiti advisory for the release applicable to your model, then visually confirm the installed version afterwards. Don't rely on auto-updates being enabled: verify the outcome.
2. Turn off remote access if you don't use it
Settings → System → Remote Access → disable
Remote access via the Ubiquiti cloud is convenient and enabled by default on many installations. If you don't use it, disabling it shrinks the surface — for these CVEs and future ones.
3. Restrict access to the admin interface
The admin interface shouldn't be reachable from the guest network or from user VLANs. Given the "access to the network" prerequisite, segmentation is a first-order mitigation here, not a refinement.
Verify in particular that your guest network is genuinely isolated from the management interface — an extremely common misconfiguration on UniFi.
4. Disable SSH if you don't use it
Settings → System → Advanced → SSH → disable
5. If you suspect compromise
- Change every password: local accounts, the linked Ubiquiti SSO account, and Wi-Fi PSKs
- Compare the configuration against an earlier known-good backup
- Review port forwards and firewall rules line by line
- On a device you believe was compromised at system level: factory reset then restore an audited earlier backup, rather than cleaning in place
- If UniFi Protect was active, assess recording exposure and treat it as a potential personal data breach
