CVE-2026-109437

CRITICAL
9.8NVD

Summary

generated automatically from NVD data

Cognition versions before 0.13.0 default their agent sandbox backend to local execution and provide no authentication on the REST/SSE API (CWE-306, missing authentication). An unauthenticated attacker can create a session with POST /sessions and send a message through POST /sessions/{id}/messages, which makes the Deep Agents ReAct loop run attacker-chosen shell commands via the local shell backend. This yields remote code execution as the server process, and the flaw is rated CRITICAL with a CVSS v3.1 score of 9.8.

NVD description

Cognition before 0.13.0 contains an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability due to defaulting its agent sandbox backend to local execution and shipping no authentication on its REST/SSE API. Attackers can create a session via POST /sessions and post a message via POST /sessions/{id}/messages without credentials, causing the Deep Agents ReAct loop to run attacker-directed shell commands through the local shell backend, resulting in remote code execution as the server process.
